Indian wrestler Sajan Bhanwal has created history in the ongoing Under-23 World Cup in Spain. He has won the bronze medal in the Greco-Roman 77 kg weight category.

He has become the first Indian to win a bronze medal in the Greco-Roman category at the World Wrestling Championships. This medal is also special because now Indian wrestlers were winning medals in the freestyle category only.

Sajan Bhanwal enters final of Junior World Championship

India’s Sajan Bhanwal has secured a place in the final of the 77kg category at the ongoing Junior World Wrestling Championships in Slovakia. She is now only one step away from winning a gold medal in this event.

Sajan Bhanwal assured a silver medal by making it to the 77kg Grecoroman final of the Junior World Wrestling Championships in Tarnava, Slovakia. After winning in this competition, Sajan will play for the gold medal match. Two more Indian players Vijay 55kg and Sagar 63kg category have reached the bronze medal match. Let us tell you that Sajan has won 4 international medals and four bronze medals so far.

Haryana’s Sajan, who won a gold medal at the Junior Asia Championships in July, defeated Ukraine’s Dmitro Gardubei in the semi-finals to win the title.

Let us tell you that India is waiting for the first gold medal in this competition in the last 17 years. The last time India won a gold medal in this championship was in 2001 in the tournament held in Sofia, Bulgaria. India had won two gold medals in that tournament. Since then gold has not come to India’s share.
